This policy explains how the “Sayyid Ali al-Husayni al-Sistani Q&A” bot — on Telegram and WhatsApp — collects, uses and protects your data, in compliance with the UK GDPR and the EU GDPR.

1. Data Controller

2. Data We Collect

  • Your account identifier — Telegram ID or WhatsApp phone number — to identify your session and store your preferences.
  • Username and display name (if available) — to improve service quality and support.
  • Your preferred language — to reply in the language you choose.
  • Your question and answer history — to improve accuracy and review quality.
  • Voice messages, images and documents you voluntarily send — processed to extract your question; temporary copies are deleted within one hour.

We do not collect your location, contacts, or any data beyond your interaction with the bot.

3. Purpose and Legal Basis

We process your data on the basis of your consent (Art. 6(1)(a)), granted when you start using the bot, and our legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f)) in operating and protecting the service from abuse. The purpose is solely to operate the service, store your preferences and improve answer quality. We make no automated decisions with legal effect on you.

4. Sharing with Third Parties

We do not sell your data or share it for marketing. Your messages are technically processed by AI-model and speech providers (such as Google, Cohere, Groq, ElevenLabs and Deepgram) solely to generate the answer, without linking them to your identity at those providers; messages are transported by Telegram and Meta (WhatsApp) under their own policies. We do not use your questions to train models.

5. Retention

Preferences are kept while your account is active. Question history is kept no longer than necessary to improve the service, then anonymised or deleted. Temporary files (voice/images/documents) are deleted within one hour. You may request immediate deletion at any time.

6. Your Rights

  • Access: a copy of your stored data.
  • Rectification: correction of inaccurate data.
  • Erasure (right to be forgotten): full deletion.
  • Portability: your data in a machine-readable format.
  • Objection and withdrawal of consent: stop processing at any time.

7. Security

Data is stored on private servers with encrypted connections (TLS) and strict access controls. No internet transmission can be guaranteed absolutely secure.

8. Children

The service is not directed to anyone under 16. If we learn we have collected a minor’s data without guardian consent, we delete it immediately.

9. Independence

This service is an independent project by Sadiqoon. It is not affiliated with, nor does it speak for, the Office of Sayyid al-Sistani (may his shadow endure), and no data is transferred from us to the Office. The Office’s only official website is sistani.org.

10. Changes

We may update this policy and will post any change on this page with an updated revision date.
